Alexander Huish (1723-17??) Information under research but, obviously had at least one child, Alexander my GGGG grandfather. (28 Jun 96)

Alexander Huish - Born 19 Mar 1749, Uley Eng. Died 21 Jan 1793, Uley Eng. , my GGGG grandfather.
spouse: Elizabeth Fisher - Born 1748, Died 6 Mar 1825.

They had one child, Edward my GGG grandfather.

Edward Huish - Born 1786, died: 23 Jan 1834, my GGG grandfather, born, married, lived and died in Uley, Gloucestershire, England.
spouse: Elizabeth Ball - Born: 25 Mar 1793, Cambridge, Gloucs, Eng, Died: 1 Jun 1844, Uley.

They Had five children, Mary Ann, Alexander, Elizabeth, William, and my GG grandfather, James William Huish.

James William - Born: 21 Dec 1821, Uley, Mar: 14 Feb 1842. Died: 1 Dec 1897 Payson, Utah, USA, my GG grandfather.
spouse: Hellen (Mary Ellen) Niblett, Born: 10 Dec 1822 Avening, Gloucs, Eng Died: 3 Sep 1911, Payson, Utah, USA.

They had ten children, Edward Alexander, born in Avening, Joseph Walter my G grandfather, Fanny, Orson Pratt, Franklin David, Lorenzo Snow, Heber C., all born in Blaenavon, Manmouth, South Wales, James William born in Frankford, Pike, Missouri, USA, Florette, and Fredrich both born in Payson, Utah, USA.

In 1834, when James was 13, his father died. That fact and his marriage in 1842 suggest he left Uley and moved to Avening where he met and married Hellen (Mary Ellen) Niblett. Their first child Edward was born in Avening, three years later their second child Joseph was born in Blaenavon, South Wales.
Using the dates stated, and the assumption they were miners, James William Huish's story might be something like this.
It was just four days before Christmas, the year 1821, the place, a tiny cottage in the little mining town of Uley, Gloucestershire, England, the event, the birth of James William Huish.
James was born in the winter of 1821, just 4 days before Christmas. By the age of 10, he and his two brothers were working side by side with their father in the tin mines. It was a cold wintery day, the 23 of January 1834, when his father died, James was just 13 years of age. He continued working in the cold, dark, damp mines for 6 long years. But times were hard, the mines were producing less tin as ore deposits dwindled. Some mines were closing and jobs were becoming scarce.

In 1840, at the age of 19, he left Uley and moved to Avening searching for work. He found work in the mines there and in the course of time met, wooed, and in 1842, married Mary Ellen Niblett. Their first child "Edward" was born there, but James wanting a large family, and a stable job to support them, decided to pack up and move to Blaenavon, South Wales, and work in one of the larger coal mines there.

The family thrived in Blaenavon, Joseph the 2nd son was born there, along with his sister Fanny and brothers, Orson, Franklin, Lorenzo, and Heber. In 1859, James, always looking to the future, decided to take his family to the New World, the United States.

Upon arriving in the United States, James set his sights on Utah and started West. Their first stop was Frankford, Missouri, where Mary delivered the 8th child, James William Huish, the year 1860. They stayed there until little James had his first birthday and was old enough to travel. Summer 1861, James gathered up his family, joined a Mormon party headed West, and arrived in Payson, Utah late that Fall.

James and Mary settled down in Payson to stay, their last two children, Florette and Fredrich were born there. James died in 1897 at the age of 76, his wife Mary died in 1911 at the age of 89. Both were buried in Payson.

The above story is fictitious, only the dates are true, the story is based on speculation and some knowledge of that period of history. I'm sure there are records available to solidify the dates and locations, it may take a little, or a lot of digging to find them.

Joseph Walter Born: 25 Jul 1846, Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, South Wales. Died:14 Mar 1904, Payson, Utah, USA, my G grandfather.
spouse: Elizabeth Powell - Born: 6 Aug 1849, Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, South Wales, Died: 18 Apr 1908, Payson, Utah, USA

They had twelve children, Thurza Hellen, Adelbert Karl, Franklin Earl, Joseph Thomas, Rowena Florette, Mary (May) Elizabeth, James Edwin, Ethel Julia, Laurel Vita, Erma, Charles Omer, and Emer my grandfather.

Emer - Born: 10 Sep 1892, Payson, Utah, USA Died: 12 Jun 1967, Castro Valley, Calif, USA
spouse: Elizabeth Park - Born: 21 Feb 1892, Granger, Utah, USA Died: 22 Jan, 1969, Castro Valley, Calif, USA

They had two children, Victor William, my father and Phyllis Afton.

When my grandfather was 15 his mother died, his father died 4 years earlier, so his brothers took over raising him. These were his "dark years", he often retold tales of how his brothers picked on and bullied him about.

He worked as a steam fitter at the Kennycott Mines (Utah)

Grandpa loved to fish. My father told me a story of how he (my dad) found a little stream, mostly covered with grass, that wandered through a meadow and how he discovered that under the grass there were holes, and if you drifted a worm into these holes you could catch large trout! He took a stringer of trout home for dinner and told grandpa about his fabulous find. The next day dad went back to the stream and didn't get a bite, grandpa had gone out that morning and fished the stream dry!

They moved to California, Some of my first memories are of their home in Berkeley. Grandfather worked as a traveling sales man, selling "Magic" boiler cleaner for Garrett-Calahan Company. His "territory" was north to the Oregon border, and south to the Bakersfield area so he spent the greater part of his time in an automobile. Grandpa liked his creature comforts, but bowing to his "Scotch blood" he always drove a Desoto. I remember him saying "It's rides as well as the Chrysler, but costs a lot less".

He retired in approximately 1960.

Grandpa was a heavy smoker, he died in 1968 of emphysema.

Victor William - Born: 30 May 1913, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Died: 16 Sep 1990, Angels Camp, Calif., USA
spouse: Lolita Edith Mayer - Born: 28 Apr 1915, Ogden, Utah, USA. celebrated her 81st birthday. (1996)

They had three children, Robert William (himself), Vicki Lolita, and Mary Elizabeth.

During WW-II dad worked as an electriction at Alameda Naval Air Station (Calif.). Because of his electronic skills he was "volunteered" to assemble a "Top Secret" Cryptograph machine. He told me years later the job took 2-3 times as long because "they" would only give him one page at a time, and often he would have to reroute previous wiring when he received the next page.

One of his favorite memories was seeing B25s' being loaded on the aircraft carrier Hornet, he thought it strange, and wondering where they were shipping the bombers to. When news of General Dolittles' raid on Tokyo was announced he knew he had witnessed a piece of history.

Dad worked as the "Straw Boss", (Electrical Forman) for Ralph Gould Co, installing Industrial wiring and equipment. One of his largest projects was wiring the Test Labs at Lawrence Radiation Labs, Livermore California. He would talk about installing light fixtures, standing on two 2"x12", 60-100 feet off the ground, mother would turn pale at the thought of standing "on a string" as she put it, so high in the sky.

He spent his later years working for Ralph at Visqueen Plastics, until his forced retirement in 1960, when he had surgery to remove a tumor from his spine.

His favorite place was "The Cabin" located in the Sierra foothills near Angels Camp, California, why? well a typical morning can best be described like this:

It was a beautiful day, warm and sunny, the creek, a mere trickle, wound its way pass the back of the cabin. The four of us (mom, dad, Char and I) had just finished a late breakfast and were sitting around talking, watching the kingfisher pause on his hunt, perch on the TV antenna wire for a moment before continuing on up stream, listening to the stellar jays screech at some intruder, and watching the gray squirrel sneak down a tree trunk to get a cool drink of water. Peacefully at one with nature, as it was meant to be.

Dad died the afternoon of September 16, 1990, at his cabin in the mountians, the place he so dearly loved. They (mom and dad), arrived late morning ~11am and dad not feeling well laid down for a nap. Char had gone off to work, I was off to Sonora, and son Bob was in his little green trailer reading a book. While I was in Sonora gathering the weekend receipts from my car wash business, Dad had a fatal heart attack. Son Bob attempted CPR without success. Dad's ashes were returned to the earth in his beloved mountians.

Robert William - Born: 23 Jan 1937, Oakland, Calif., USA. (-so far so good).
spouse: Charlotte Ann Orr - Born: 3 Jun 1943, Livermore, Calif., USA

They had two children, James Michael and Robert Wayne.

I was born in East Oakland Hospital, just down the street from J.C. Penneys, an Oakland historical landmark. We lived on Ridgeway Ave which had a steep hill I would zoom down on my trusty tricycle, dragging my feet to 'flat track' (slide around) the turn at the bottom. Dad tried putting taps on my shoes to keep me from wearing them out but, the taps wouldn't last so he made steel toes and heels to cover the soles and they made the most wonderful sounds as the sparks flew off.

James Michael - Born: 6 Jul 1961, Castro Valley, Calif., USA
spouse: Phyllis (Princess) Denise Schuette - Born: 3 Jan 1964, Texas, USA

They have one child to date, Nathaniel James.

Robert Wayne - Born: 9 Mar 1963, Castro Valley, Calif., USA He has not any children to date. Hope reigns supreme.

Nathanel James - Born: 11 Jun 1995, Austin, Texas, USA
