DONT PANIC!!!

Follows are instructions to reach the Lexx BillBored and Chat IRC server with an IRC client. The chat room is IRC and Java Applet compliant (intermixed). You can access the Java chat with a Java Applet-compliant browser, by creating a user account (if you don't already have one) on the Billboard and clicking on the [CHAT] button. However, the simplicity of this Chat does not outweigh its lack of features, for many people, who may prefer the IRC side.

Note: There is now an alternate IRC/chat room at the SciFiUS Lexx site http://www.scifi.com/lexx/ (or irc.scifi.com #lexx) since Lexx started airing there. It is unmoderated, unstable, and often intruded by people who hate Lexx (irc.scifi.com is for all shows on SciFiUS, the seperate show channels are not hidden from each other, and Sliders and Farscape fans as well as others seem threatened by Lexx and feel the need to come over to #lexx and express it verbally to those that like it). Use at own risk.

Here are 5 somewhat simple steps to get to the new room:

1. Get an IRC client. For most of you this will probably entail looking for an IRC program icon and clicking on it :). If you do not have one, I recommend mIRC (for 16 or 32 bit Windows). To go to the mIRC homepage, click here. A good MacOS IRC program is ircle (so I have heard). If you have a different OS, you can probably find a good IRC client for it at tucows.

2. Learn how to use it. Ok, easier said than done. Try reading the help files that came with your client. There is also a good newbie turorial here (in the Newbie Area), and a newbie FAQ here. To get a comprehensive list of IRC commands, click here or here. You can probably skip most of this step for now by following the next few steps closely.

3. Set up your nickname and user info. This should pop up (in mIRC) as soon as you start it, and you can reach this screen with alt+E (or in mIRC 5.5+, Alt+o/Connection/Servers). Chose a nick and an alternate, your email address, and I recommend just your initials or nick for "real name" since anyone can see this information. Here is an example of mine:

Note: If you have mIRC 5.5 or later your setup screen will look a bit different. Go to alt+o options and look for the server setup.

4. Add the Lexx server. Click the [ADD] button (on the screen you typed your nick, full-name, & email address on). You should get a box that looks like this:

Put the info in as you see it above, then hit [ADD]. Back on the Alt+E screen, hit [Connect to IRC server] (see step 3) making sure 'Lexx Chat.' is selected.

5. You should connect to the Lexx Chat server, getting the 'Message of the Day', etc etc. Once you connect, a channel folder should pop up. Type in #lexx here and click [Join]:

(Alternately, you can type /join #lexx in your Status window)

IF all goes well, you should end up in the LexxWorld #lexx chat room. Hopefully this room will be around for a while. However, our backup channel is on FEFnet (our old home, we just love moving around). You can get to FEFnet #lexx with my old IRC instructions if you suspect the current server is down or broken.

  <Splarka> Welcome to IRC.
  <DDC> IRC?
  <lefty> We're in IRC?
  * Splarka nods.
<DDC> So, what are we supposed to do now?
<Splarka> Perhaps you should find yourselves a channel.
<lefty> But IRC is full of depravity and evilness, and darkness and-
<Splarka> My old friends came from IRC.
<Splarka> I was taught that although there are not many good channels, there are some.
<Splarka> Perhaps you should find one.
<DDC> You mean, we should find one, were together in this.
  <Splarka> I'm idle, I have no future.
