Welcome to Goldrush World Access!

Common problems while making a dialup connection to Goldrush World Access

  1. Make sure your username and password are correct. All Goldrush usernames have lower case letters or numbers.
  2. Make sure the number you are dialing does not contain a "1," the area code or any other characters before the 7 digit number (unless special call features require preceeding numbers/characters - e.g., "*70," to disable call waiting).
  3. Make sure there are no leading or trailing spaces around the username or password. Use the backspace key to remove the username and password (hit the backspace key a few extra times to ensure no spaces exist) then retype them.
  4. Make sure your account payment has been made.

Genernal information
The connection manager does a pretty good job of automating this setup, but you'll need to know a couple of details. If you have existing Goldrush connections you may want to delete them before proceeding. After you print out this readme file, go to start, choose run and enter a:\goldrush.exe then click run. You will need to enter an access telephone number, so follow this procedure:

1. Click "Properties" then click "Phone Book" and select a local number.

-OR-

2. Consult your telephone company to see which is a toll-free call:
736-1802, 532-1271, 962-7082, 223-9448, 772-0522, 754-4775

Please consult your telephone company to choose an access number that will be a local call for you.  Goldrush World Access is not responsible for long distance telephone charges that may be incurred due to the incorrect choice of access number.  Please note: the fact that a telephone number does not require a "1" in front of it does not automatically make it local for you.

Goldrush World Access supports X2 and v.90 56k technology. K56Flex modems may be able to connect as fast as 33.6k, but will not achieve 56k speeds. A V.90 update is probably available for your K56Flex modem. Please contact your modem's manufacturer for details.

When the connection manager is finished setting up, you may be prompted to restart your computer (make sure you remove the Connection Manager diskette from the floppy drive first). When back in Windows, you will notice that a Goldrush World Access icon has been added to your desktop. If all you want to do is connect to Goldrush, use this icon. Most people, however, will wish to view pages on the World Wide Web (WWW) or send and receive e-mail.  To access the WWW, simply start your browser. On most Windows 95/98 systems, you can do this by double-clicking on an icon on the desktop called "The Internet" or "Internet Explorer". This will bring up a browser called Internet Explorer. The first time you invoke this program, you may be prompted for further information. Let the program know that you wish to use the existing Goldrush account that you already set up. For e-mail, you may have one or more of the following programs installed on your system:

Outlook or Outlook Express
Netscape/Mozilla mail (if you have Netscape/Mozilla installed)
Eudora Light or Eudora Pro
Pegasus Mail
Incredimail

Here's a final helpful hint: Every Windows program has instructions and help included in the help file. Just choose "Help" from the menu of the program you would like to know more about. Many help files even include a tutorial to help you on your way.

The connection manager should take care of the configuration for your Windows 95,98, Me, NT, 2000 or XP system, but we have provided the following information to help in case you encounter any difficulties:

The name of the service provider: goldrush.com
Telephone number: see above
Username and Password: enter these exactly as given to Goldrush.
IP Address: Mark the "My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns one"
(Primary) DNS Server: 206.171.171.3
(Secondary) Alternate DNS Server: 206.171.171.4

Internet Mail Settings are as follows:
Your email address: login@goldrush.com (login is your user name)
Internet mail server: mail.goldrush.com
POP Server: mail.goldrush.com
SMTP Server: smtp.goldrush.com
Exchange profile: Internet mail settings (the default)

Other configuration items that may be used elsewhere are:
News Server address: news.goldrush.com
NNTP Server: news.goldrush.com

If you have call waiting, go to My Computer/Dial-Up Networking (My Computer/Control Panel/Dial-up Networking in NT, 2000 & Me). Open the Goldrush connection. Click on Dial Properties. Under How I dial from this location, fill in any codes your telephone service requires (typically *70, to disable call waiting). Click OK.
Some versions of Windows 95 have not had the Internet Wizard installed. Instead, you may have the setup called Getting on the Internet. You may also have a separate CD that contains the setup. Similar screens will be displayed, and the information entered is the same, but with different terminology and sequence of screens that may be displayed. If you have neither Internet Wizard nor Getting on the Internet please contact Goldrush for instructions.
