These are a few
shots I've taken or have been sent of my new caving friends who have joined me on
one of my trips. As you can see I have alot of fun leading them. More photos will
be added as I accumulate them (send some of yours and share them with the world)
so come back often to look for new images. Caving can be an enjoyable experience,
but is not to be taken lightly nor done by the inexperienced or unprepared. I highly
recommend taking a professional guided tour if you are interested in learning more
about this exciting underground sport.Your guide should be able to point you in the
right directions if you wish to pursue your new hobby.

Moaning
Cavern is open to the public, located in California's Mother Lode area near Angels
Camp... and is proud to offer alternatives above and beyond it's traditional walking
tour. The folks in these photos are beginning a 3 hour underground "Adventure
Trip", instead of walking down the stairs they have opted to *rappel* 180
feet to the floor of the main chamber !!!

|
|
Speaking of stairs,
this is a happy group of scouts climbing out after their trip... surprised they still
had so much energy? The second shot is a close personal friend hamming it up for
the camera in the "Upper Mudflat" room. OK Toby, say "Cheese".
 |
|
At this
point they have passed beyond the point of electric lights, and relying only on the
lamps on their helmets are seen going through "Joe Adventure".
|
|
|
Now we
see them maneuvering through the narrow crawl way known as the "Meat Grinder",
and crawling/climbing up through "Godzilla's Nostril".
|
|
|
In the "Pancake
Room" we can rest for a few minutes, explore side routes or learn more about
the cavern itself, and how it was formed. |
| Speaking of side
routes, here is a shot of 2 adventuresome crawlers negotiating the "Column
Squeeze". Bill, on the left, is a frequent visitor and always tries to bring
along a new "initiate" to caving.... plus he shares his great photos with
me. Thanks Bill! |

This is a new shot I recently received showing a young Boy Scout
from Troop 64 exiting the hole above Godzilla's Nostril, adjacent to the Conference
Room, 9/30/2000. |

|
| Here's a group
of very tired but happy cavers who went on a trip in August '99. They all had a great
time, exchanged addresses, etc... but unfortunately the list for sending photos was
lost. Dorothy & Sam sent me this photo in the hopes that the rest of the group
would view it here. Not sure which one Sam is, but Jay is the guy wearing the white
helmet.... he's been on a few of my trips, and has asked if I'll be doing any tours
at Black Chasm. |
 |
Viktor, on the
left (pardon my spelling) sent me these 2 pics... and the latest "Pancake Room"
shot from his trip here on Jan. 18' 2000. He came with some friends to Rappel, but
decided to do the whole trip, and was very glad he did. |
 |
I plan
on more images in the future, and will also replace these with new shots of different
visitors but I hope you enjoyed the few shown here. If you need more info or perhaps
would like to make reservations for your own underground trip in the near future
then you will want to go to Moaning Caverns website. Please be sure to mention to
the nice folks in the office you found them on one of their guide's web page, it
will make my day.
